NEXUS INTEGRATED CARE

Nexus Integrated Care is a small but diverse and highly skilled team, passionate and committed to improving service delivery for people living with co-occurring mental illness and substance use or addiction (dual diagnosis) and their families, carers and supporters. We are also actively engaged at a state, national and international level promoting, being informed by and adding to the evidence base for best practice around service delivery to communities where people are impacted by MH and substance use issues.

Nexus Vision: To be a leader in supporting implementation and advocacy of evidence informed integrated treatment and care, that builds knowledge, skills and confidence of the stakeholders we work with, in order to improve the lives of people living with co-occurring mental illness and substance use or addiction.

Note that Nexus Integrated Care is a workforce development program and does not provide direct clinical or case management care in the Mental Health or AOD service sector.

The following recovery stories highlight a number of important issues and challenges for people who experience, or are affected by another’s, substance use and mental health issues (Dual Diagnosis). These are real and lived individual experiences. Some of the stories may contain sensitive and confronting material related to trauma and suicide. We hope to encourage people to reflect on and consider the realities of the lived experience and to think about ways that recovery can be supported.

LemLei

LemLei describes her own journey from a naiive young girl to addiction and the importance on being treated as a person and not "what you had become." She also comments on how significant mediation between herself and her parents was for her recovery.
